Dear Reader,
In today’s fast-paced and stressful world, we rarely take the time we need to relax and let go of tension. As a result, millions of people live their lives with tensed muscles, low energy levels and spiritual voids. Rolfing is a unique kind of therapy that can help release the tensions that drag us down mentally, physically and spiritually. It is a hands-on manipulation that was developed 50 years ago by Dr. Ida Rolf. Rolfing works on the connective tissue to release, realign and balance the whole body. The body’s connective tissue network is known as the myofascial system and it is “the organ of structure.” It supports the skeleton and soft tissues, positions the bones and gives the body its shape.
The goal of Rolfing is to reestablish the natural alignment and structural integration of the body. It can greatly enhance your posture and freedom of movement and can resolve pain and discomfort associated with back problems, repetitive motion injury, trauma and aging. It is an excellent foundation and complement to yoga, Pilates and other personal wellness practices.
Dr. Rolf believed that “an effective human being is a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts” and the techniques she developed are designed to bring balance. Dr. Rolf received her doctorate in Biochemistry from Columbia University. She developed the Rolfing method when she was conducting research at the Rockefeller Institute and studying the connection between the body’s structure and the way the body functions.
Rolfing is administered in several sessions, with each session building on the work of the previous. The treatments are progressive with each one concentrating on a specific part of the body through the loosening and balancing of connective tissues. Once a course of treatment is completed, the client usually returns for occasional treatments to maintain t he balance.
According to information released by the Rolf Institute, one of the most common misconceptions about Rolfing is that it is nothing more than a type of very deep massage. There are many varieties of massage, which are particularly effective for loosening tight tissue, reducing stress, detoxing the body and creating an increased feeling of relaxation and wellbeing.
Rolfing is different. What Rolfers do can be summed up in three words: palpation, discrimination and integration. Rolfers palpate or touch the tissue, feeling for imbalances in tissue texture, quality and temperature to determine where work is needed. They discriminate, or separate fascial layers that adhere and muscles that have been pulled out of position by stress, strain or injury. Finally Rolfers integrate the body, relating its segments in an improved relationship, bringing physical balance in the gravitational field.
Accidents, injuries, chronic illness, physically demanding work and emotional events can influence holding patterns within the body. As a result, the body’s structure can become misaligned. Gravity is the most powerful of all forces affecting the human body. Postural misalignments and gravity result in chronic strain, lowered vitality and impaired biological and psychological functioning.
Before beginning a session, a Rolfer will evaluate the client’s body structure and help the individual establish goals for improved functioning. The client will then lie on a table and the practitioner will apply just the right amount of pressure where the fascia is restricted. During treatment, clients may be asked to “breathe” into the area being worked on and make synchronized movements. The combination of applied pressure and synchronization frees and repositions the connective tissue and aligns the body’s segments.
Because Rolfing is a holistic technique, the positive changes it brings will impact the whole person. It is a safe, natural way to restore balance to your mind and body.

How Can the Rooster Help Men and Women Keep Their Joints & Muscles Free of Pain?
100 million Americans suffer from chronic pain. Back pain, neck pain, knee pain, foot pain - you name it, we've got pain, all day, every day. In fact, joint and muscle pain cause more disability and missed work days than cancer and heart disease combined.
As we age, our joints and muscles lose Hyaluronic Acid (HA) and HA is the critical lubricant for your healthy joints, skin and eyes. This joint dryness is the principal reason why your cartilage - the shock absorber between your joints - becomes malnourished and starved, and why it starts to break down and disintegrate, causing terrible pain with each step.
HA is extracted from Rooster Comb and it's the best source for providing your body with a low molecular weight source of HA, which means higher absorption. HA is odorless, neutral in color, water-soluble and classified as a food. It is 100% natural and has shown to be effective in maintaining skin elasticity, joint flexibility and sharp vision among adults.

Dear Reader, The
dark, dreary days of winter are enough to put anybody in a less than
perfect mood. For some people however, winter causes a deep and
debilitating depression that substantially affects their ability to
function. The scientific name for this winter funk is seasonal
affective disorder (SAD). While doctors aren't exactly certain what
causes SAD, many believe a disrupted "body clock" — or circadian rhythm
— caused by seasonal changes may be to blame.
Seasonal
affective disorder is a cyclic, seasonal condition. This means that
signs and symptoms usually come back and go away at the same times
every year. Usually, seasonal affective disorder symptoms appear during
late fall or early winter and go away during the warmer, sunnier days
of spring and summer. The most difficult months for SAD sufferers seem
to be January and February. Younger adults and women are thought to be
at higher risk for developing symptoms. SAD may begin at any age, but
the main age of onset is between 18 and 30 years.
The
precise cause of seasonal affective disorder isn't known, but genetics
and age may be factors. Most evidence, though, suggests that it arises
from abnormalities in how your body manages its internal (circadian)
biological rhythms or matches those rhythms to the 24-hour day. In
particular, the hormone melatonin is thought to play a major role in
seasonal affective disorder. Melatonin helps control body temperature,
hormone secretion and sleep. It's produced in a specific area of your
brain during the hours of darkness.
Fortunately,
there are safe, effective, drug-free treatments that can minimize the
symptoms of SAD. One of the most popular ways to deal with SAD is
through light therapy. Research shows that light can help get the body
clock back in sync. Light therapy mimics outdoor light and causes a
biochemical change in your brain that lifts your mood, relieving
symptoms of seasonal affective disorder. In light therapy, you sit a
few feet from a specialized light therapy box so that you're exposed to
very bright light. To be effective, light therapy must be delivered by
a special bulb that offers the sun's spectrum of colors and the sun's
intensity. If you use light therapy, it is important to stick to your
regime because it will only work if used regularly.
The
general recommendation for most people with seasonal affective disorder
is to begin treatment with light therapy in the early fall, as soon as
the earliest symptoms start. Be on the alert for symptoms such as
difficulty waking, daytime sleepiness and carbohydrate cravings.
Treatment generally continues until spring, when outdoor light alone is
sufficient to sustain a good mood and higher energy.

You Can't Get Too Excited About Minerals?
Here's a little-known health fact: You can live without vitamins, but without minerals, your brain, your heart and other organs would cease to function. No
less an authority than Dr. Linus Pauling, the only person ever to win
the Nobel Prize twice by himself, says: "You can trace every sickness,
every disease and every ailment to a mineral deficiency." So-called "farm fresh" American produce no longer has much of its original nutritional value. There are essential minerals missing from the food you eat – everyday.

Protein Means the Power to Grow and Repair!
Without
daily protein absorption, the growth, repair and maintenance of your
muscles, tendons, hormones, enzymes, antibodies, blood cells, hair,
skin and nails is severely compromised.
Protein
means power and if you want to keep your strength and energy as you
age, you need to feed your cells with an adequate protein supply.
Americans are living longer, but you have to ask yourself are you living stronger with each year?
Sadly,
the answer for most men and women is no. Why? The single biggest reason
why people sag and drag with age is malabsorption. As you age, it gets
harder to absorb all the nutrition from the foods you eat.
Malabsorption
(which happens to everyone with age) opens the doors to disease and
decline. But that slide can be turned into a climb if you properly
digest and use protein to keep your body intact.

Dear Reader,
Did
you know that protein was the first substance to be recognized as a
part of living tissue? The word “protein” comes from the Greek word
“proteos “ which means “primary” or “taking first place.” Proteins
account for 20 percent of our body weight and perform a wide variety of
functions that are vital components of body tissues, enzymes and immune
cells.
Actually,
proteins are complex molecules that are comprised of a combination of
several amino acids which link together in just the right combinations
to make each different protein. The body can only make the proteins it
needs when there are sufficient quantities of all the necessary amino
acids. If our bodies are deficient in essential amino acids, we will be
unable to make proteins and we will have to break down muscle proteins
in order to obtain the amino acids we need.
Despite
the fact that Americans eat more protein than any other nation, we are
still protein deficient and millions of us are dragging through the
day, wondering why our health care professionals can’t help us break
the cycle of lethargy. You can’t compensate for protein deficiencies
simply by eating more meat, eggs, fish and nuts. Most adults, because
of poor food choices and poor absorption from the small intestine,
don’t have sufficient amino acids to make digestive enzymes or the
thousands of proteins necessary to sustain the optimal structure and
function of the body. That’s why thousands of people use supplements to
boost their energy, strength and vitality. Taken daily, these
supplements can make a substantial difference in your protein
absorption.
When you fully activate your level of protein absorption
your entire body gets an energy makeover. People who use supplements
often find that they enjoy better digestion and bowel function and gain
better joint and muscle function. This is especially true for people
over the age of 50 because as we age our bodies are less able to
compensate for protein deficiencies.
Talk
to your holistic health practitioner to find out which protein
supplement is best suited for your needs. Make sure you choose
supplements with free form, single chain amino acids that require NO
digestion so your body can use them immediately. Look for a
doctor-designed formula designed to correct the state of your protein
deficiency, stimulate digestion, rebuild your enzymes, increase your
stomach acid and thus increase the nutrient stream to all of your major
organs and cellular functions. Protein supplements are readily
available at health food stores and natural health product providers.

What Do Your Kidneys Really Do For You Every Day?
It’s their critical job to filter blood (about 1700 quarts a day), ridding the body of waste products.
The kidneys filter metabolic waste products from protein, fat, various minerals, alcohol, drugs, and other ingested toxins.
Said another way: your kidneys are your indispensable wastewater removal system. Without them you die!
Much of the water you drink is necessary to clean the blood and flush acid waste out of the body via the kidneys.
Your kidneys also regulate all your body’s water; electrolytes monitor the acid/alkaline balance of your blood and help control blood pressure.

As a Result of Poor, Acid-Based Nutrition...
 It’s
easy to become tired, weak, imbalanced, and dull-witted like there’s a
bag of wet wool around your head. You become congested in your lungs,
liver, kidneys, and colon. But
let’s face it, it’s hard to eat enough salads and enough fruits to get
all the fuel you need. Hard to get the right mix of proteins, amino
acids, healthy fats, fiber and antioxidants. Harder yet to accomplish
this regimen, day in and day out. Now with one anti-aging super cocktail, Long Life Food Source, you’ll be able to switch on a secret source of energy and strength every day for the rest of your life!
Dear Reader, The
benefits of holistic health are so well documented that many people are
extending their holistic health practices to their pets. During the
last few years there has been a marked increase in natural healing for
animals. Just as human holistic medicine focuses on the “whole” person,
holistic animal medicine focuses on the “whole” pet, not just one
specific issue or disease. Holistic veterinarians are focused on
resolving the cause of the problem, not just alleviating symptoms.
Holistic means being open-minded to what is in the best interest of the
pet. Holistic practitioners are involved in a pet’s total health, including diet , nutritional supplements, preventative care, parasite control, grooming and exercise. While medications and surgery are sometimes needed, holistic veterinarians do not “over use” conventional medical treatments if there are other, less invasive methods that will work. They work on the premise that health is not simply the absence of disease. Many animals may appear healthy (they are not demonstrating signs of illness) but in fact are ill. Some of the modalities that holistic veterinarians may use include acupuncture,
herbs, flower essences, homeopathy, chiropractic, nutritional, Reiki,
and healing touch modalities. Nutrition therapy is particularly
important because all animals (and humans) can benefit from improved
nutrition. Good nutrition helps prevent disease and improve overall health. Some pets show immediate improvement when their owners add natural supplements to their daily routine. (Many people who choose
holistic care for their pets prepare their pet’s food at home and do
not buy commercial dog or cat food. That way they can be absolutely
sure that the food is safe and that it contains only natural ingredients. ) Holistic
veterinarians will first take a detailed background of your pet. They
will look at the environment the animal came from and also the
environment in which the animal is currently living. They will talk
with you about any chronic or recurring problems and stressors that may
be affecting your pet’s quality of life. Just like in humans, excessive
stress can take a toll on a pet’s general health and well-being. After
the information is gathered the holistic practitioner will work with
you to understand the causes of any problems your animal is having and
develop treatment plans for your pet. The treatment usually is
multi-faceted and may include a combination of therapies.
For instance, your dog may need an antibiotic for a bladder infection
along with massage, acupuncture and a special diet to speed the healing
process. So
how can you find a veterinarian who specializes in holistic care? The
number of holistic veterinarians is rapidly increasing, so the first
place to look is in your own city. Call the local health food store or
holistic health practitioner (chiropractor, acupuncturist, etc.) and
ask if they know of any holistic veterinarians or ones that are open to
supporting your holistic work with your animals. There
are a few national organizations that provide training for holistic
veterinarians. The American Holistic Veterinarian Association is one of
them. Most holistic veterinarians actually received traditional
education at animal medical schools. However, after using holistic
approaches to their patients’ problems and seeing great results, they
decided to focus on alternative medicine. If
you cannot find a holistic veterinary practice in your area, then try
to seek out a vet who will at least support your decision to take a
holistic approach to your pet’s health. After all, holistic vet care
should not be regarded as a complete replacement of traditional
medicine, but it can be a great addition and it will definitely improve
the quality of life for your four-footed friends.

Sheila McCormick

| You Need Protein to Grow and Heal! You need protein every day, but… what kind of protein, that’s the question. Protein is es sential for muscle growth, brain function and energy. Without it, you’ll drag, droop and drop before your time. You need protein for the manufacture of hormones, antibodies, enzymes and tissue repair. And maybe most importantly, protein helps your body maintain the proper acid/alkaline balance in the body. I
spent over two years testing and tasting other people’s protein powders
and I discovered three things that turned me off big time…
Turn off #1 All of them tasted bad!
Turn off #2 All of them were impossible to dissolve!
Turn off #3 All of the soy products were high in fat, carbs and sodium. So, I set out to make a super high-energy protein drink...
